MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK
From 1000 USD
Overview
Mikumi National Park lies just north of the renowned Selous Game Reserve. First gazetted in 1964 with an area of 1,070 km², the park was later extended in 1975 to its present size of 3,230 km², making it the fifth-largest national park in Tanzania. It shares its name with the nearby village of Mikumi, located just beyond its western border along the Dar es Salaam–Iringa highway, which cuts across the park for about 50 km. The town’s name originates from the Borassus palm trees that once grew in abundance, though today only traces remain. Mikumi is often referred to as a "mini-Serengeti" due to its vast open grasslands and incredible concentration of wildlife.
